It all started when Tammy tasted a fresh European artisanal caramel for the first time while honey-mooning in Europe. The caramel was smooth, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth and not at all like any caramel she had ever tasted before. Of course, Tammy brought a bag home for her best friend, and new sister-in-law, Alysia.

It just so happened that caramels were Alysia’s boyfriend’s favorite candy. He liked the fresh caramels so much he tried to make them last by eating only one caramel a day. But soon, the bag dwindled and Alysia’s beau longed for more of those delicious caramels.

Alysia could not find any caramels locally that could compare, so she asked Tammy to help her make their own caramels.

After many months spent sourcing ingredients and hundreds of batches cooked to perfect their technique, the sisters had not only recreated the smooth, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth caramel, but evolved the classic caramel into an assortment of delicious flavors that eventually made up their Classic Collection: London Fog Latte, Sriracha Roasted Almonds, and Smoked Maple Bacon.

In spring 2016, the sisters opened their first booth at the local farmers' market to sell their caramels. Their first day at the market was cold, dreary, and even snowing! They'd cooked all week to make 300 bags of caramel candies which they painsakingly cut, wrapped, and packaged all by themselves (with the help of their loving husband/boyfriend too, of course). They thought their whole week's work had gone to waste. 

But to their delight, despite the freezing rain and flurries, the crowds came. They tasted, and they swooned! --They loved them! Their caramels sold out almost every weekend all summer long. Seeing how happy their sweets made people, helped the sisters realise just how much they loved making caramels. 

By the end of summer, the pair said goodbye to their day jobs, and officially changed their titles to,

"Carameliers"

After that, they dived into the world of caramel making by moving into a fully licensed commercial kitchen, launched a successfull Kickstarter campaign (thanks Kickstarter-All-Stars!) to purchase more commercial candy cooking equipment, and made their caramels available to buy online. 

Today, Alysia and Tammy are the full time carameliers at Caramia Caramels and their caramels are handcrafted in small batches and made from scratch!
